MISTRAS non-destructive examination (NDE) services can be used to detect and identify defects in gas turbines, generators, steam turbines, and many other assets in combined cycle facilities.
Asset failure can be a huge hazard within a combined cycle facility for both equipment and personnel, along with leading to costly plant shutdowns. MISTRAS works with your individual facility to identify, repair, and prevent damage from occurring in order to limit downtime and promote production, with solutions for:
- Gas Turbines
- Steam Turbines
- Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSGs)
- Rotating Equipment
Gas and Steam Turbine Inspection & Monitoring Services
MISTRAS ensures that both the gas and steam turbines in your combined cycle facility are operating efficiently and at optimal capacity.
With the critical role that turbines play in combined cycle plants, their stator vanes, valves, fluids, and pumps should be regularly inspected and maintained to ensure that turbine defects are not limiting a facility’s total production capacity. MISTRAS turbine services include:
- Gas Turbine Leak Detection
- Combustion Turbine Monitoring Systems:
- Bore
- Solid Rotor
- Disk Keyway Cracking
- Stator Vane Blades
- Bolts
- Inspection of Rotors, Diaphragms, Studs, Bearings, Valves, Turbine Rebuild Inspections
- Third Party Oversight, QA Services, and Vendor Surveillance
- Lube Oil Piping Inspections
- Gland and Fitting Surface Inspections
- Sizing and Dimensional Blade Resurfacing
- Lashing Lug Inspections
- Expanded Valve Inspection on Stems, Bodies, Seating Disc Surfaces and Strainers
- Disbond Examinations on Dissimilar Material Surfaces
Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSGs) Services
Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSGs) capture the heat created by gas turbines and use it to generate steam, powering the steam turbines which create additional electricity for the facility. Given the multiple materials flowing in and out, generators contain complex systems of tubing and other componentry that face intense stress and high pressure during operation.
MISTRAS uses NDE technology to inspect and monitor HRSGs for defects that limit output or are dangerous to the asset and personnel. We can detect a variety of flaws in HRSG componentry as soon as they occur, including:
- OD Erosion
- Corrosion
- Overheating
- Hydrogen Damage
- Caustic Corrosion
- Chemical Attack
- Cracking
- Fatigue
We detect these damages using a multitude of engineering and inspection solutions, including:
Predictive Maintenance (PdM) and Vibration Testing
In machines that generate mechanical forces as part of their normal operation, like the rotating equipment assets used in combined cycle plants, vibration testing is important in ensuring that assets are operating as they should.
Predictive Maintenance (PdM) allows technicians to service assets with the intent of preventing specific defects in equipment and componentry that are especially at risk. Technicians identify Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in order to effectively assess plant performance and operation. MISTRAS can perform vibration and PdM services on an individual basis, or work with our clients to implement, execute, and manage a PdM program.
MISTRAS’ vibration services and PdM programs are focused towards helping your facility minimize downtime and maximize production, including:
- Vibration PdM/RBM Walk-Around Programs
- Infrared Thermography Surveys
- Lube Oil Analysis Programs
- Acoustical Testing, Analysis, and Design
- Ultrasonic Leak and Bearing Fault Detection
- On-Site Dynamic Balancing
- Factory/On-Sire 3rd Party Acceptance Testing
- Complete Engineering Root Cause Analysis
- Advanced Vibration Testing
- Motor Condition Monitoring
- Sub-Station/Transformer Diagnostics
- Strain Gauge Materials Testing
- Stress Analysis
- Installation of permanent vibration sensors and monitoring systems
MISTRAS technicians will record and analyze asset vibration in order to detect discontinuities that might suggest a defect or flaw. By analyzing rate of change, frequency response, and a variety of other factors, vibration testing is extremely useful in predicting machinery problems and planning inspection, maintenance, and repair activities.
Combined Cycle Monitoring
Consistent monitoring gives technicians the ability to detect leaks, cracks, and other defects as soon as they occur in order to quickly source and repair damage in combined cycle gas turbines, steam turbines, and generators.
Monitoring in combined cycle facilities allows operators to ensure that critical assets are functioning without defects or damage that could lead to a costly and hazardous asset failure.
MISTRAS has the monitoring capabilities to ensure that assets remain in service, which limits facility downtime and promotes overall production. MISTRAS NDT monitoring systems operate non-intrusively and can be used while assets remain in-service, so your plant does not experience any process disruptions.
