Princeton Junction, NJ – January, 2017 – MISTRAS Group, Inc. is proud to announce that AETOS, our Unmanned Systems Center of Excellence, was awarded a third-party certification for safe and effective unmanned aerial systems (UAS) operations.

The National Unmanned Aircraft Systems Credentialing Program (NUASCP) awarded the certification, which AETOS is only the 7th company to receive. NUASCP offers third-party vetting, separate from Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval. This enables drone operators to differentiate themselves from industry competition by voluntarily enrolling in and completing a program to demonstrate their commitment to safe and effective drone operations. The process includes various tests and an operational audit of live-flight capabilities, including safety policies, procedures, and qualifications required by FAA guidelines.

Traditionally, drone operator vetting is done directly with oil & gas companies, through their in-house corporate flight departments. While that procedure will still be in place for many organizations, the NUASCP certification is a potential vetting alternative, and serves as an important differentiator over industry competitors without the credential.
